One of the Best Tomahawk Steaks I’ve Had in Costa Rica
One of the things I enjoy most about traveling is that some of the best experiences are never part of the original plan.
During one of my trips to Costa Rica, I was staying near Hotel Pelicano, a smaller property outside the busiest parts of Jacó. While talking with the owner, the conversation turned to restaurants and places worth visiting in the area. Rather than giving me a list of tourist spots, he simply suggested that I try Don Toro Beach Restaurant.
I’m glad I listened.
Located directly on the beach, Don Toro offers the kind of setting that reminds you why people fall in love with Costa Rica. The restaurant is open-air, allowing guests to enjoy ocean breezes, the sound of the waves, and a relaxed atmosphere that feels far removed from the stress of everyday life.
What stood out most to me, however, was the food.
I ordered the tomahawk steak, and to this day it remains one of the best steaks I’ve had in Costa Rica. Whether it was the quality of the preparation, the beachfront setting, or simply arriving with a healthy appetite after a day of exploring, the entire experience came together perfectly.
The steak was cooked exactly the way I wanted it, flavorful and satisfying from the first bite to the last.
Around me, guests were enjoying mixed drinks, conversations with friends, and live music that added to the atmosphere without overpowering it. Although I visited during the day, it was easy to imagine how lively the restaurant would become later in the evening.
What I appreciated most was that Don Toro managed to balance great food with a great environment. Many places have one or the other. Some have excellent food but little atmosphere. Others have fantastic views but average meals. Don Toro delivered both.
If you’re exploring the Jacó area and appreciate a good steak, this is one restaurant that deserves consideration. For me, it became one of those unexpected discoveries that made the trip memorable.
Sometimes the places you remember most are the ones you never planned to visit in the first place.
